Life Enhancement Learn how energy from the plant kingdom and how your own inner power bring physical, mental, emotional and spiritual sell-being. Ayurvedic Cooking Ayurveda has 3 main focuses: healing, prevention and health care. Ayurvedic cooks derive their knowledge of herbs, spices, vegetables, legumes and so forth from Ayurveda (knowledge of life) which helps maintain physical, mental, social and spiritual harmony. The cleansing of toxins that have entered the body and the electrochemical vitalizing of the body are the main objectives. Ayurvedic cooking is an art and a science at the same time. The basic elements of Ayurvedic Cooking are: the 5 elements, 3 body types, universal energies, 7 tissues and 6 tastes. This style of cooking is a rational way to prepare food keeping in mind the dietary need of an individual based on their body type. A person's primary body type (personality traits and constitution) could be Vata(air), Pitta (fire), or Kapha (earth). We're all a combination of the three body types, but lean more towards one or two. These personality traits determine what foods we should avoid and what food we should include in our diet. Eating according to our body types increases our sense of balance and well being. Read about Dr. Shekhar »Dr. Shekhar Annambhotla, BAMS, M.D. in Ayurveda-India, RYT, CMT |

What is Nutritional Counseling?
Nutritional Counseling, provided by a Registered Dietitian (RD), can be an important feature of your healthy lifestyle and overall wellness. Nutrition Counseling is a process. It covers a wide range of nutrition needs and can help you to improve your health long term.
Nutrition counseling includes a nutritional evaluation, assessment and development of an appropriate daily eating plan that is designed around your specific needs (i.e. Health concerns, disease states, weight control, allergies, religious beliefs, life-style and other factors).
Your first visit or consultation will involve a “get to know you” session that involves providing and gathering information. After that, a typical counseling session (approx. 45 minutes to 1 hour) includes development and/or modification of a nutritional plan, setting attainable goals, education for you and family members, a review of previous sessions, discussions about what might be new (i.e. Medications, lab results, events) and follow-ups and maintenance visits.
Why Nutrition counseling by a Registered Dietitian (RD) is important?
Many people are surprised by what a healthy balanced daily diet truly is. Often and unfortunately, our sources of information are from food advertising and their claims of “healthy food” can be very misleading.
A Registered Dietitian (RD) is the qualified expert and is there to advise you and help you to separate “fact from fiction.” They look at the whole picture (i.e. a combination of behavioral, environmental, social and genetic factors) and come up with your plan. They can even help you interpret lab test results that may have been ordered and can coordinate your overall health and wellness plan with your family doctor or other practitioners. | Self-Esteem Empowerment This is an ongoing class and is held every third Wednesday of each month. Anyone may join at any time. The title is: “The Self Esteem Gene: Tapping into your soul’s wisdom and harnessing your power.” Do you have passion? purpose? power? The new paradigm of quantum physics, still foreign yet compelling, reminds us that we create our own reality. Underlying this brave new world concept is the sobering idea that unless we love and nurture ourselves – unconditionally – we cannot reach this magical yet attainable level of joy, peace, and harmony. More importantly, it is only at this new level that we can impact our world and be the change, as Gandhi said, that we wish to see. Read about Dr. Helene »Dr. Helene Leonetti, M.D. |
| Whole and Living Foods As a nation, we eat foods that have been stripped of their nutrients. We do not eat enough fresh produce, whole grains and quality protein. Many people take a multivitamin in an attempt to help maintain optimal health, but rarely do they consider where the nutrients contained in those multivitamins come from. They don't know if their supplements are truly doing the job of replacing the nutrients missing in their diet. A typical "complete" multivitamin contains only a fraction of the components found in food. They contain synthetically manufactured, fractionated, isolated nutrients and are missing many of the nutrients, phytonutrients, enzymes and cofactors in comparison to supplements based on whole foods. Whole food supplements contain these missing nutrients, even those that haven't been discovered yet. They provide nutrition as nature intended - in a whole food form, so you receive many of the nutrients the whole food provides, rather than incomplete isolated components of the food. It is in these "missing pieces to the puzzle" where the power of whole food supplements lies. They can be used to correct a multitude of nutritional deficiencies without the toxic issues a synthetically manufactured vitamin may produce. This in turn, gives the body the tools it needs to heal itself from many disorders and diseases. Proper nutrition is the foundation to overall health and well being.
